Remember when Quality Street killed off the Toffee Deluxe and broke our hearts into a thousand pieces?

Well, we have some great news. The Toffee Deluxe is coming back to Nestle’s Quality Street after a 12 month absence.

The sticky toffee wrapped in milk chocolate will be returning to Quality Street tubs and tins this Christmas after having been replaced last summer with the Honeycomb Crunch.

While the Toffee Deluxe didn’t completely vanish – it was still a prominent part of the ‘Toffees and Fudge’ range, festive chocolate-lovers were outraged when they discovered it’d no longer be a part of the wider variety tins and tubs. The then Toffee Deluxe-free selection sparked a huge reaction online, so much so that #ToffeeGate became a thing.

While fans no longer have to worry about missing out on the beloved chocolate covered-toffee, the fans of the Honeycomb Crunch don’t have to worry either, as the newest sweet will remain in the tubs, tins and all other packs of the assortment.

Basically, there’s going to be something for everyone this year – and we can’t wait to sit and pick out the best ones this Christmas while binge-watching The Royal Family (come on, it’s tradition).

Jonathan Smith, Senior Brand Manager for Quality Street said it was the despair caused by the previous binning of the Toffee Deluxe that inspired the team at Nestle to bring it back.

He said: ‘The reaction to Honeycomb Crunch replacing Toffee Deluxe last year was incredible and, although a lot the comments were tongue in cheek, it was obvious that there is still a great deal of fondness for the Toffee Deluxe out there.

‘Quality Street is a brand that is all about bringing families and friends together through the love of each person’s individual favourite sweet so we are delighted to be keeping both sweets in the assortment and giving consumers even more choice, moving from 12 to 13 different sweets overall.’

Alongside the return of the beloved toffee, Jonathan has announced that the traditional Quality Street tins will now be available in three larger sizes, alongside the 750g tub.

There’s going to be a 900g tub, a 1.2kg tub and a 1.5kg tub – so it’s safe to say the brand really has taken all customer’s comments on board (surely these sizes were inspired by the upset caused by the suspiciously shrinking tins over the past few years?)

As well as the larger sizes, there’s also going to be a 240g tin, 500g pouch and 600g jar. There will also be three carton options made up of the main selection, Toffees and Fudge, and Fruit Cremes.

Fans of The Purple One or Strawberry Delight can buy single sweet packs of their favourites in wrappers designed to look like giant versions of the individual sweet.

Of course, it’s not Christmas without Quality Street – or without some cheesy festive adverts. Nestle also have the latter covered, as the first signs of Quality Street Christmas will appear on Monday 6 November with a revamped Quality Street ad airing nationwide.

Apparently there’s going to be an ‘extra surprise’ for lovers of Quality Street revealed within the ad – though what could be better than the return of the Toffee Deluxe?

The revamped Quality Street tins and tubs are already available to buy in supermarkets now – but get your hands on one before they sell out, as they’re likely to be very popular. We wouldn’t want #ToffeeGate to become a thing again, now would we?
