If your go-to Mcdonald’s food of choice is the Filet-O-Fish, you might want to check you’ve got an extra 5 minutes to wait around for it – otherwise you may risk eating one that’s been left aside for hours.

According to a Reddit post in which users came forth to reveal which restaurant chain’s food they should avoid ordering and why, the Filet-O-Fish is a big no-no unless it’s been freshly cooked.

User Exiled-Biblu explained that when it comes to McDonald’s, you should be prepared to wait around for the fish-filled burger.

They wrote: ‘At McDonald’s just say you want a fish filet cooked to order. It will take ~5 more minutes but worth it compared to the filet that has been in the heated cabinet for hours.’

Another user backed the comment up, saying: ‘I came here to say this. Seriously.

‘It’s been 3 years since I worked there but I can promise you that filet of fish is not fresh by any stretch of the imagination.’

However, one user was totally okay with the fish not being fresh – it was the burgers themselves they had the issue with.

‘If you’re going to serve me a square piece of fish that tastes the exact same whether I order it in Denver or the south of France, I am under no assumption that it is by any means fresh (I mean it’s square for f*ck’s sake) and I am completely okay with that, it’s my go-to comfort food,’ explained ThePeskyHeskey.

‘What I really want to know is how damn hard is it to put a half a slice of cheese on a sandwich and have it resemble a complete sandwich, why is it always lopsided?!’

While there have been few complaints about the taste of the non-fresh Filet-O-Fish, it seems the main argument is really about making the most of your money.

Obviously, when you go to McDonald’s you don’t expect Michelin star dining.

But you do expect to get something resembling what you see on the menu (which is usually sandwiches looking way better than they do in person).

If we’re going to be served an hours-old Filet-O-Fish, at least give us a discount.

Metro.co.uk has contacted McDonald’s to find out whether the reports from Reddit users are true – and how we can go about ensuring all the food we purchase is actually made fresh to order.
