Marseille’s Evra sent off after aiming kick at fan’s head

Olympique Marseille defender Patrice Evra has been sent off before a Europa League match in Portugal after appearing to lash out at a fan's head with his foot.

Evra, only a substitute for the Group I match against Vitoria in Guimaraes, got into a verbal argument with supporters, who scaled the barriers to reach the advertising hoardings to confront the team.

Video footage showed Evra lashing out at one of his own club's supporters.

He was then ushered away by a teammate and referee Tamas Bognar red-carded the France international.

Evra won five English Premier Leagues and the Champions League during an eight-year spell with Manchester United.

He joined Marseille from Juventus in January.

Vitoria completed Marseille's misery by winning 1-0 with a late goal and the French side had Boubacar Kamara sent off for a second yellow card offence.

Patrice Evra is led away by Rolando after a scuffle with a Marseille supporter.
