Lynn Swann on Clay Helton’s extension: “He has shown that he can lead our team with integrity and stability and that he has the ability to win conference and national championships. I am happy with the job Clay has done so far.”

This is the most stability USC football has had in a long time. Certainly in the past ten years.

Helton has led the Trojans to double digit wins in back-to-back seasons, and that level of success isn’t something USC fans have grown accustomed to in the past few years. The program has been in some serious turmoil for awhile, but this contract extension appears to signal that times are changing in Pasadena.

That’s good news for college football fans everywhere. College football is simply more entertaining and more fun when the Trojans are dominating. The college football world needs storied programs at the top of their games. It’s just a lot less interesting when they’re in the gutter.
