Browns Executive Gives Laughable Excuse For Why He Didnt Like Josh Rosen

Cleveland Browns V.P. of player personnel Alonzo Highsmith had an extremely interesting interaction that formed his opinions on Josh Rosen.

Smith recently talked at the Pro Football Hall of Fame Luncheon Club, and he claimed that his opinions on Rosen were formed in part because of a conversation he had with the UCLA volleyball coach. Yes, its just as crazy as you probably think it sounds.

Pro Football Talk wrote the following on the exchange:

“I was at an airport,” Highsmith said Monday at the Pro Football Hall of Fame Luncheon Club, via the Canton Repository. “UCLAs volleyball team was in front of me. You heard so much about Rosen. Hes this or that. We all know how people talk.

“So I asked one of the volleyball coaches, Whats Rosen like? He said, Aaaa, you should probably ask his girlfriend. Shes one of the players. Shes over there.

“Im like, All right coach. Thats good enough. . . . I dont know what all this means, but there was something about him that bothered me.”

I dont want to overreact here, but this is an incredibly dumb way to form any kind of opinion. Heres a quick bit of facts about college athletic departments. The teams generally hate each other, and the football and basketball teams are hated the most. All teams are fighting for resources, and envy is a very ugly thing. Coaches and players resent the big time players and teams with all the money. How do I know this? I lived it by working in a college basketball program. You have no idea what envy looks like until your program has to essentially carry the entire athletic department on its back.

I would expect much better out of an NFL executive that using a UCLA volleyball coach to reenforce anti-Josh Rosen feelings. This is why the Browns are the Browns. They have people taking the word of people outside of the same sport to make decisions.

Josh Rosen is going to be a star in the NFL. I dont know why I feel that way, but theres something about this guy that makes me think hes going to win a lot of games. As for the Browns? Who knows when theyll ever be good again.
