Former Redskin Signs With Rival, Then Calls Logo Racist

Former Washington Redskins player AJ Francis called the Redskins logo “racist” on Instagram after signing with the New York Giants on Wednesday.
“When the team you were on didnt appreciate you but the team you played against actually pays attention to the film,” Francis wrote on Instagram, following up with the hashtag #AndYourLogoIsRacist.
Despite controversy, Redskins leadership have shown no interest in changing the name any time soon.
“Well never change the name,” Redskins owner Dan Snyder told USA Today in May 2013. “Its that simple. NEVER – you can use caps.”
Snyder maintains the team name is not racist, but rather honors Native Americans.
The defensive lineman had 18 total tackles in six games last season in Washington, but was released by the Redskins on Monday in order to make room for rookies Daron Payne and Tim Settle. Francis has played on six teams since entering the league undrafted in 2013.
Francis will play against his former team on October 28 and December 9.
