David Warner and Cameron Bancroft considering cricket come-back in Top End

NT Cricket is hoping to lock in banned Australian players David Warner and Cameron Bancroft for the Strike League in July, which could see the pair make their return to competition in the Top End.

Warner and Bancroft copped 12 and nine month bans respectively from domestic and international cricket for their roles in the ball tampering saga in Cape Town in March.

But Joel Morrison, chief executive of NT Cricket, believed the NT would be the perfect place for the two players to make their return.

He said he was hoping to finalise plans over the next couple of weeks, following initial discussions with each of the players.

"If the timing does align, there certainly is interest there and we're certainly hopeful we might be able to find an opportunity for them to play in the strike league," Morrison said.

"[That] would be fantastic for cricket in the Territory."

The Strike League features both 50-over and T20 format games, and is designed to give emerging local players experience against interstate and international talent.

"The opportunity for us is to be able to have the likes of a Bancroft or a Warner around town to be able to pass on some of their knowledge to our local cricketers would be fantastic," Morrison said.

"The idea of the Strike League competition is to provide another opportunity for our players in the Territory to be a part of the Australian cricket pathway."

David Warner hosted cricket training camps in Darwin on the weekend.

It was his first public appearance since the controversy, and Morrison said he was embraced by the community.

"Everyone was very willing to embrace him and have a conversation with him," he said.

"Sure, people will make their own opinions in relation to whether or not they can forgive and forget, and some people might not be able to do that.

"But certainly the local cricket community was very willing to sit down and have a conversation with Dave while he was up here, and hear about his past experiences and what they might be able to learn from him.
