Barcelona’s sporting director was in the stands in Lisbon on Wednesday evening to watch Manchester United take on Benfica, according to reports in Spain.
Robert Fernandez was spotted In Madrid on Tuesday to watch Tottenham take on Real Madrid in the Champions League, and cast his eye over another Premier League star a day later.
Mundo Deportivo claim Barca sent their top man to watch Anthony Martial in the 1-0 win over Benfica, a player they have tracked since he was at Monaco and have been linked with again in recent months.
The 21-year-old has had an exceptional start to the season, winning his club’s Player of the Month award in September, though that has largely been as an impact substitute off the bench.
That was the case again on Wednesday, with Fernandez travelling all the way to Lisbon only to witness a 15-minute cameo from Martial, who replaced Marcus Rashford late on.
Martial is seen as an ideal target for Barca who are still looking to reinforce the left side of their attack following Neymar’s move to Paris Saint-Germain.
Although the Catalan club signed a replacement in Moussa Dembele, the winger plays predominantly on the right wing and has been sidelined for several months.
The appeal of Martial is boosted by his relative lack of starts at United, with Rashford still seemingly ahead of him in the pecking order, and Barca are hopeful they could tempt him away.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, Fernandez’s focus was mainly on Spurs striker Harry Kane, another potential target as Barcelona continue to work on strengthening their forward line.
