Pochettino: Harry Kane will be fit to face Arsenal in derby
Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has allayed fears that the knee injury which has prevented Harry Kane featuring for England during the international break will sideline the striker for the north London derby against Arsenal.
Kane is one of three Spurs players to have withdrawn from the England squad for friendlies against Germany tomorrow and Brazil on Tuesday after incurring a knee problem against Crystal Palace in the club’s last Premier League outing.
The 24-year-old, who has scored 17 goals in 18 matches for club and country this season, returned against the Eagles having missed Tottenham’s previous top-flight match at Manchester United with a hamstring injury.
Pochettino, however, is confident the in-form hitman will be fit to face the Gunners at Emirates Stadium on 18 November. He said: “Harry is okay, he’s very good. He received a kick in his knee, but don’t worry he will be available in the next game.”
Tottenham sit third in the table after seven wins in 11 matches, although they trail runaway leaders Manchester City by eight points. Arsenal are four points behind Spurs in sixth place.
Pochettino, meanwhile, previously indicated that he would be willing to sign a 15-year contract at Tottenham, but when asked whether he envisaged matching the 20-year managerial tenure of Arsene Wenger at Arsenal, the Argentinean was more circumspect.
“My dream is to be here, to help the club achieve all the dreams we have,” he added. “But I am a very spontaneous person. I’m always thinking, today, tomorrow.
“My commitment with the club and Daniel [Levy] is complete. It depends more on them [the Tottenham board] than me to be here more than 20 years.
“After three and a half years we’re still growing. I am so happy here. But you cannot guess what is going to happen in the future. Today my commitment is here.”
