Harry Kane has broken Alan Shearer’s Premier League record by scoring Tottenham’s opener in their clash with Southampton on Boxing Day.

Shearer’s record of 36 goals in a calendar year had stood for 22 years, but Kane gave himself a chance of surpassing that total with his hat-trick against Burnley on Saturday.

The England international found the net after 22 minutes at Wembley to overtake the former Newcastle United striker and set a new benchmark.

Kane then struck again in the 39th minute to make it 38 goals in total for 2017.
