Alexis Sanchez’s wage demands are putting Manchester United in pole position to sign the Arsenal player ahead of Man City, according to reports.

The Red Devils have emerged as serious contenders to sign the Chile international despite it having been widely assumed a move to Man City was inevitable.

Reports suggest they are ready to make Arsenal a serious offer of around £25million for the forward and are willing to pay him more than Manchester City.

The Manchester Evening News report that Man City are reluctant to meet Sanchez’s wage demands, which are understood to be around £300,000-a-week.

It’s also reported that sources at the Etihad say the club are ‘not desperate’ to sign Sanchez and will simply turn their attention to other big-name players if a deal fails to materialise.

Man City’s stance plays into the hands of Manchester United, who are more willing to pay the 29-year-old what he wants.

Arsenal will let their soon-to-be-out-of-contract player leave this month if they receive a fitting bid and manage to sign a replacement.
