Another Olympian was suspended for doping after testing positive for Fenoterol in his asthma medication Tuesday.
Slovenian ice-skater Ziga Jeglic, 29, was pulled from the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics due to the banned Fenoterol (a drug that opens airways in the lungs), which his doctor prescribed for asthma medication, The Court of Arbitration for Sport said, according to the New York Post.
“Ziga Jeglic (Ice Hockey, Slovenia), positive in-competition test with fenoterol (beta-2 agonist; specified substance); the athlete accepted an anti-doping rule violation and, as a consequence, the athlete is suspended from competing in the remainder of the Olympic Winter Games Pyeongchang 2018,” the International Ice Hockey Federation said in a statement on their website.
Jeglic issued an official response to his suspension: “I have overlooked the difference between comparable drugs, which are allowed and would enable me to use it for my respiratory problems during the Olympics,” he said. “I apologize for my negligence to all the persons involved, and I accept the further anti-doping procedures.”
Slovenia previously beat Slovakia 3-2, with Jeglic scoring the winning goal Saturday.
