New whisky release captures the spirit of the sixties

A 50-year-old Tomatin whisky has been launched as a limited edition.

Wealth Solutions has realised the dram, a single malt from 1967. This spirit is the oldest whisky to have been lying within Tomatins warehouses and only 88 bottles have been offered for sale.

Tomatin 50 Year Old Black, as this edition is named, dates back to the year when The Beatles released their legendary album titled Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band and the first issue of The Rolling Stone magazine hit the shelves in the US.

This whisky is a real time capsule which takes its owner back to the 1960s. For 50 years, the spirit was aged in a cask previously filled with sherry, earning its unique and rich profile. The whisky has been bottled by Tomatin Distillery as a single cask and at cask strength, natural colour and non-chill filtered, so that it can be fully appreciated in its natural form.

This special edition was selected by the Tomatin Distillery especially for clients of Wealth Solutions, which is an expert in the field of providing collectors with extremely rare spirits, as well as other collectors items, such as rare watches, fountain pens, coins or works of art.

The beautifully-presented Tomatin 50 Year Old

Stephen Bremner, sales director at Tomatin, said: We were delighted to work with Wealth Solutions on bringing this special whisky to market.

It is the oldest whisky we currently have in our warehouses and one which will certainly be enjoyed by those who manage to acquire a bottle.

Tomatin 50 Year Old Black was placed on the market in a special packaging consisting of a decorative decanter, a wooden box designed specifically for this project by Wealth Solutions, and a book by Martine Nouet – industry expert and author of numerous acclaimed publications on whisky. The book contains information on the Tomatin Distillery, the whisky contained within and the authors tasting notes, as well as her suggestions about which foods are best served with this exceptional whisky.

Martine Nouet wrote in the accompanying collectors booklet notes: This whisky epitomizes the signature of time left by rancio, this mysterious bouquet of earthy, fungal, spicy and fruity notes only found in the oldest eaux-de-vie. Fruit wraps up oak and spices, leaving the print of sherry through subtle layers of flavours. A sensual ”pas de deux” between wood and spices.
