Relive The Night Bin Laden Was Killed With This Patriotic Mets-Phillies Footage

Today is the seventh anniversary of the night Al Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden was killed.

The raid was carried out by DEVGRU, also known as SEAL Team 6, under the code name Operation Neptune Spear. The elite squad of about 25 SEALs entered Bin Ladens Pakistan compound in a team of modified stealth Blackhawk helicopters.

The SEALs found Bin Laden on the third floor of his home and fired twice, with Rob ONeill claiming he delivered the kill shot in Osamas bedroom. He was promptly brought back to Afghanistan for identification and buried at sea not 24 hours later.

Word about Bin Ladens death spread quickly. One of the most iconic moments back on American soil was captured during the Mets-Phillies game on the evening on May 1, 2011. Sometime during the top of the 9th inning, the attitude changed in Citizens Bank Park.

“All of the sudden, the guy next to me jumps out of his seat and yells Oh my God we got him! Hes dead!'” one Phillies fan recalls.

As news spread and fans started checking their phones, they broke into a “USA” chant across the ballpark.

It must have been an electric moment to be sitting in the middle of Philadelphia surrounded by Americans from all walks of life, only to hear that the most lethal terrorist in recent history had been wiped clean off the face of the earth. This is the kind of stuff that makes you proud to be from the greatest country on Earth.
