The 28-year-old allrounder from Launceston is set to pull on purple for the first time after signing a three-year deal with last year's grand finalists.

He will join the club after seven seasons in the Big Bash League with the Melbourne Stars, where he averaged 26.48 runs with the bat and took 45 wickets from 47 games.

Faulkner has also represented Australia 24 times in cricket's shortest format taking 36 wickets at an economy rate of 7.96.

The allrounder should slot straight into a Hurricanes side hopeful of claiming its first BBL title, after the departure of Dan Christian to the Melbourne Renegades.

Faulkner is already one of Tasmania's favourite sons; he is a three-time Ricky Ponting medal winner as the state's best domestic cricketer and was Man Of The Match in the final of Tasmania's 2012/13 Sheffield Shield triumph.

His father Peter also played for the Tigers.

More recently, Faulkner has struggled to get on the pitch for the Tigers in the game's longest format because of a persistent knee injury.
