NFL Releases Wet-Blanket Statement After Supreme Court Gambling Decision

People all over America are celebrating after the Supreme Court struck down a federal gambling ban on sports, but the NFL doesnt seem pumped.

NFL released the following statement after the historic decision:

The NFLs long-standing and unwavering commitment to protecting the integrity of our game remains absolute. Congress has long-recognized the potential harms posed by sports betting to the integrity of sporting contests and the public confidence in these events.

Given that history, we intend to call on Congress again, this time to enact a core regulatory framework for legalized sports betting. We also will work closely with our clubs to ensure that any state efforts that move forward in the meantime protect our fans and the integrity of the game.

Why am I not surprised that the NFL is, once again, not with the times? The rest of the world is celebrating and the NFL is talking about the “integrity of our game” and the need to “call on Congress.”

Give me a break. The NFL could just get down with the party and Roger Goodell could seem cool for once in his life. Thatd be cool, wouldnt it? Of course, thats apparently way too easy if youre the NFL. Instead, the league is choosing to only reinforce all the stuff theyve done that has already upset fans.

Too bad. I really thought the NFL wouldnt act like a completely clueless organization here and would recognize what their fans want. I guess that was just asking too much.
