A Top NHL Prospect Is Reportedly Too Addicted To Video Games To Make The League

NHL analyst Jeff Marek recently claimed that there is a top-draft pick so addicted to video games that the guy will never make the league.

Marek said the following on the Sportsnet podcast 31 Thoughts, according to Deadspin:

On video games – and Im not going to say the players name. I really doubt hes going to make it to the NHL, and its because of a video game addiction, to the point where his junior general manager told me that theyve had him go to counseling over it, because hell play until all hours of the night and into the morning and then hell have no energy the next day. Like, hell be a write-off. And it is that bad. He has this compulsion for playing video games until all hours. I swore that I wouldnt say the players name, but its unfortunate. Hes a recent first-round draft pick for a very, very prominent NHL team, [but] will probably never play in the NHL because of a video game addiction.

This is crazy to me that there is a young man who is willing to piss away a future in the NHL for video games.

I play video games from time to time. I enjoy them. College football is a particular favorite of mine. But I would never ever pick up a PS4 controller if it meant that I was risking millions of dollars playing a professional sport.

His addiction is so bad that he has to go to counseling? Are you kidding me? Is this real life? This is insanity to me. Put down the damn controller and get on the ice. Kids are just so strange these days. Imagine liking video games more than liking being a superstar athlete. I guess its just a sad indictment of our society and the youth.

Hopefully, a coach finds this kid and gets him some serious help before he loses his NHL future.
