Busy day tomorrow? Heres how to make sure you BOSS it

We all have those days, you need to feel and look your best. Be on your A game. In effect; boss it.

But you wake up groggy, knackered and feeling like you are just sooo far from tackling the day a-la-Beyoncé.

There are however a few, remarkably simple, things you can do to ensure you feel focused and fabulous all day.

Get a (properly) good nights sleep

Everyone knows sleep is a fundamental biological process which helps the body repair and recover overnight.

But, did you know that your brain uses loads of energy while you sleep? Nope. Didnt think so.

Well it does, and it needs a constant flow of fuel for this. If your brain isnt receiving enough fuel for its nighttime activities you will wake up in the middle of the night.

GP Dr Roger Henderson explains: To carry out its essential overnight repairs and cell rejuvenation, your body uses energy in the form of glycogen which is stored in the liver. During the night, these glycogen stores get depleted at a rate of 10g per hour, of which 65% is used by the brain.

If this energy supply runs out, the liver sends stress signals to the brain in the form of the hormone cortisol, alerting it to wake up until sufficient levels are restored. This process can result in broken sleep, which you may not even be aware of, but can often leave you feeling tired and lacking in energy the following day.

As well as obviously trying to ensure you are aiming for at least 7 hours of sleep a night, taking Benenox Overnight Recharge before a big day can help support a good nights sleep by providing fuel (in the form of glycogen) for your brain overnight and wake up feeling energized and well rested – ready to boss the day ahead.

It contains honey, Sustamine®, which is a combination of two amino acids, L-Alanine and L-Glutamine, which help the liver to store glycogen by slowing absorption of honey in the stomach, as well as Vitamin B6, shown to reduce tiredness and fatigue while supporting psychological function.

Dont believe it? Well a study of 140 people using Benenox for 1 week found that 81% were pleased with the results, 75% had better quality sleep, 76% stated that their ability to concentrate was better and 76% stated that their effectiveness at work/study/other activities was better.

Own the first 15 minutes

Dont worry; we arent going to say spend half an hour meditating before an hour of yoga, an ice shower and a kale smoothie.

However, and you may be bored of hearing it, but successful people tend to use their morning productively.

Basically, DO NOT HIT SNOOZE. When your first alarm goes off your body will be hit with a rush of adrenaline. If you hit snooze and stay in bed the adrenaline will ebb away- and your body wont have the same reaction the second (or third, or fourth or 13th) time your alarm goes. Meaning it will be that little bit harder to get out of bed, and you will be groggier.

If you really struggle to resist the lure of the snooze try placing your alarm or phone the other side of the bedroom, so you have to get out of bed to turn it off.

Other things you should do in the first 15 minutes of your day (that dont involve a private chef or personal trainer) is drink a big glass of water, or two if you can.

Then spend 10 minutes planning your day out. Literally imagine your day from the second you step out of your door. Your entire commute or journey, then each part of the day. This will not only help you feel more in control and calm, but prompt you to remember things you might need.

Eat!

Whatever you do, dont skip breakfast. The clue is in the name – having not eaten all night – you are breaking the fast.

We already know how important fuelling your brain is, and the same goes for your body. A perfect breakfast combines complex carbs and protein. Ideally with a portion of fruit or veg included too.

Options include 2 poached, scrambled or boiled eggs on wholemeal toast with avocado, spinach or grilled tomatoes, or porridge made with whole oats and sweetened with fruit, honey and a few nuts.

But dont beat yourself up if you dont eat an Instagram worthy breakfast. everyday. Even a granola bar and a piece of fruit is better than going without.

And keep eating…

Dont go for hours without food. Whether youre doing an important presentation or just on the go, letting your blood sugar drop too low will make you groggy and grumpy. Definitely not the route to bossing the day.

Carry healthy snacks with you (fruit, nuts etc) if you think there might not be food around, and try and eat every 3 hours.

And dont forget to keep drinking water. Aim for 2 litres of non caffeinated liquid a day (and no, wine, beer and high-sugar fizzy drinks dont count towards this).

Lay out your clothes the night before

Yes it might make you think of your mum laying out your school uniform. But avoiding staring blankly into your wardrobe wondering what to wear, or scrambling searching for your favourite tie, not only is a massive waste of time, but will make you feel frazzled and definitely un-boss like.

Also save the agro of hunting around for your favourite lippy or concealer by putting all your makeup (and jewellery) out or in a to-go bag. And dont let anyone shame you if you want to put it on on the train/ bus. Multi-tasking is life.

Acting confident, dressing well, having good posture and smiling. These non-verbal signals are picked up wayyyy more than you might think by those around you.

This in turn will affect not just what they think of you, but how they treat you. If youre treated well and with respect, you are likely to actually feel happier and more confident… You see how it is a cycle?

Also, just the mere acts of sitting up, walking with a straight back, smiling etc actually change how you feel inside, making you feel positive and fearless.

Fit in exercise

This one applies to the day before your big day, as well as the day itself.

Getting a sweat on (even a light sheen from a brisk walk) the day before will also help you sleep better- meaning you will wake up rested and refreshed.

Exercise is good for you (obvs). It releases serotonin which makes you calmer and happier, so you can focus better.

Plus it is great for your health. Try and also incorporate movement into your day to keep you energised and your mind on-the-ball.

Put down your phone (for a bit)

Constantly being in contact with not only your friends, but the wider world is fab.

But sometimes being able to scroll for ages through random social media streams, text group chats or even read the news can be a bit of a drag on your resources.

Think about the time you would gain by reducing your phone time. Your commute social media binge could be a chance to read or plan your day.

All those minutes instant messaging colleagues or responding to the group Whats Apps at work could be the difference between leaving on time and having to stay late.

Not to mention constantly breaking concentration to check emails or messages will seriously impact your productivity.

No one is expecting you to throw away your phone. But consider a technology blackout or ban for say, two hours a day (or two half hour slots if youre properly addicted).

This is especially important if you have a big day where you need to boss it. You will be amazed at the difference it can make (trust us).
