McDonalds UK and Ireland is making its Happy Meal menu a little bit more healthy after collaborating with Mumsnet to introduce a new wrap.

After six months of product development with the parenting network, today sees the release of the new grilled chicken wrap.

Over 1,000 Mumsnet users were surveyed, with 78% saying they wanted to see grilled chicken on the Happy Mel menu.

It followed a discussion on the site last year in which parent said they wanted to see more diversity on the menu, including a potential non-fried option.

Since then, McDonalds has been working with Mumsnet to make that a reality – involving parents and grandparents at every stage.

Mumsnet users have gone into the McDonalds development kitchen, met with development chefs and take part in focus groups and taste-testing sessions to perfect the wrap.

The majority of Mumsnet users that we surveyed said they wanted grilled chicken and the opportunity give their children a range of choices in what they eat, and thats exactly what McDonalds has delivered, says Carrie Longton, co-founder of Mumsnet.

Were thrilled to see a new product on the McDonalds Happy Meal menu that Mumsnet users have played a fundamental role in developing.

McDonalds is also making salad options in the wrap fully customisable after Mumsnet users said they wanted to be able to customise their kids meals.

From today, parents can add cucumber, onion and pickle for free, with tomato costing 20p.

Other new healthy options in the Happy Meal include being able to swap fries for carrot sticks or fruit bags, and drinks like organic milk and water being available.
