Where to drink? Chill out in a hidden tropical rum cocktail terrace

The Diplomatico terrace at the Bloomsbury Hotel, where you can enjoy free Daquiri slushies while you wait for your cocktails.

Move over Frozé…this summers ultimate icy cooler is the Daiquiri slushie, being served on-tap at the newly launched tropical Diplomatico rum Palm Terrace at the swanky Bloomsbury Hotel, tucked away 2 minutes from Tottenham Court Road.

The terrace has been transformed into a jungle-like oasis of calm, serving free (yes you read that right) iced Daiquiris on arrival while you choose your cocktail…the theme is tropical and theyve gone all out with the Mango Botucal (Diplomatico Mantuano, mango, Amber Picon and Fernet Branca) or Terepaima Sunset (Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva, pimento, guava, coconut, pineapple and passion fruit shrub) and a classy twist on a rum and coke with the Ron y Cola…using a reduction of cola and vanilla syrup topped up with Prosecco…lush!

Soak up all the rum-fun with Latin-inspired bar snacks including addictive yucca chips and aioli, spiced beef empañadas and scallop ceviche.

Each Saturday, DJ Sam Frankl will be spinning some Latin Bossa beats for their late brunch session from 1 – 5pm until the end of August.

Where to eat? Tacos, margaritas and more in London Bridge

Santa Remedio mexican restaurant in Tooley Street, London Bridge
Santa Remedio Mexican restaurant in Tooley Street, London Bridge

While were on a Latino tip, if you like tacos (who doesnt like tacos) you need to visit Santa Remedio on Tooley Street, SE1.

Their tacos are super authentic, with handmade maize tortillas and house salsa that tastes like its straight out of Mexico City.

Choose from pulled pork, soft-shell crab, pork belly, beef barbacoa or crispy potato tacos – and if youre lucky, maybe the slow-cooked beef shin that was a special on the day we went in.

If you still have room for more, get the barbecued chuletas (lamb chops), the tasty little tuna tostadas, blue corn quesadillas (hello instagrammable blue food) and the prawn aguachile – and dont be afraid to try the guacamole with grasshoppers. And churros for pudding. No one ever said that Bar Fox doesnt eat enough.

Its authentic Mexican, its super friendly, does superb margaritas and has a cute tequila and mezcal bar upstairs where you can drink cocktails and eat tacos til late.

Also, heads up: theres a Mexican brunch coming soon on Sundays. Margaritas for breakfast, you say? Watch this space for more info on a launch date.

GOT YOUR OWN INSIDER TIPS?

The new Temper Covent Garden. The burrata pizza is insane. Also: beef fat ravioli, crumble prawns, which were delish and all the pizzas. Had the octopus but it wasnt as good, so I wouldnt get again. – FY

The newly opened Japan House on Kensington High Street is unbelievably exquisite and if youre interested in all things design, Japanese or just simply beautiful, you have to go. Products curated from around Japan are set out in a spacious room on the ground floor. The restaurant upstairs has stunning, stunning sushi and a lovely sake menu, including a very good aged sake and some light sparkling options. Its genuinely show-stopping stuff. Prices are high though – £40 for lunch bento box means Ill be going less than I would hope for. – DF
