In this sweltering heat, ice creams are basically a necessity.

While Im certainly a Calippo girl, it seems that the majority of Britain prefer a creamier lolly, as a new poll from YouGov has revealed Magnums are the the nations favourite.

They surveyed almost a thousand adults, with 28% saying theyd go for a Magnum.

The other lollies trailed behind. Fabs and Soleros got a joint second with 8% of the vote each, Twister just after at 7%, and Feast at 6%.

The frozen treats that made the top ten are my beloved Calippos, orange lollies, Cornettos, Fruit Pastille ice pops, the now-defunct Mivvi ice creams.

Whoever the heathens were that answered this survey laid waste to classics like Mini Milks and strawberry splits, obviously forgetting the childlike wonder of a multipack in the freezer after a water fight.

To be fair to the aforementioned heathens, 16% chose other. This either means they prefer a 99 Flake, some sort of boozy lolly, or a good old choc-ice – all acceptable choices.

The results did show an age gap, as over 50s had basically no loyalty to the likes of Fab and Twister, while nearly half of over 65s opted for a Magnum (compared to only 12% of 18-24 year olds).

YouGov did point out that some people may call many of these ice creams rather than ice lollies, but respondents answered in their own words rather than from set options.

Essentially, the people have spoken, and although its hardly Brexit, it tells us a lot about the nation (and the crazy weirdos who prefer ice cream to lollies in this weather).
