Actress Jamie Lee Curtis brought returning host Meghan McCain to tears on Monday when she delivered an emotional impromptu tribute to late Arizona Republican Sen. John McCain on ABCs “The View.”

Curtis, who was promoting the most recent “Halloween” film, began by talking about how the newest installment was really a generational story.

“We had a lot of story to tell and we wanted to tell the story of Judy Greer, Andi Matichak, who play my daughter and granddaughter, because it is generational,” Curtis said before pivoting to face McCain. “Every war hero — and your father was a war hero for this country.”

Curtis went on, saying, “Every single person in this country owes him a debt of gratitude for his courage and his service and his strength and he has, as you all said, passed it right into you. But you see — I dont even know where Im going, but I just wanted to let you know — No, because that is true — I dont even know what connected it. All of sudden I looked in your eyes and saw your dad.”

McCain was openly crying, nodding along as Curtis continued, “And you know what, my dad is gone. I wish I had a dad who I could have really — I didnt know mine. He was a terrific actor, but I was not close to him and I longed for that closeness and that connection. Thats all Ive ever wanted in my life. Its why I have it with my husband and my children and what you have with your father, and its just powerful and you are an extraordinary representation of that connection. Beautiful. Sorry. I didnt mean to make you cry. Beautiful girl.”

Monday marked McCains return to “The View,” her first day back at the table following her fathers death after a long battle with glioblastoma.
