Westerners often centre western language as the default, understandably.

When it comes to understanding foreign things, they can be explained in such a way that theyre almost dumbed down. For example, hummus becomes a sauce, a lungi becomes a skirt, and biryani becomes a vegan wrap.

One comedian decided to turn this phenomenon on its head.

When actor and comedian Quincy went to France and tucked into a traditional French delicacy, he decided to have fun with it.

Posting on Twitter, he wrote: My first crepe here in France! (A crepe is a type of French roti or jianbing).

In doing so he demonstrated how ridiculous it can be when cultural items, like the crepe is to the French, are reduced to a foreign version of something else instead of a cultural item in their own right.

The joke resonated with many others, as the post racked up thousands of likes and retweets in the space of a few hours.

One person quipped: I bet you were initially disgusted by the soft texture or the thinness of the dough, but after you spend enough time in France, youll learn to get past the foreign-ness and enjoy such an exotic food!

Others joined in on the shade saying: Looks exotic, I recommend also trying a baguette, its like a French Youtiao.
