‘Tripcare’ is the A-list makeup artists’ answer to nailing your holiday beauty stash, here’s how to do it

Weve all heard of skipcare at this point. The mercifully streamlined antidote to ginormo 12-step skincare routines, coined by the Koreans and taking off among minimalists. Apply this approach to your holiday beauty regime and voila, you have yourself some tripcare.

Its not a trend. Think of it more as vacation salvation – especially if youre jet-setting off to multiple destinations over the summer months. Forget about maximalism and spread-eagled attempts to squash your over-laden suitcase into submission. This is a considered and curated edit of top-performing, multi-purpose products that can take you through every eventuality and occasion. And, who knows hand luggage best? Professional globe-trotters, of course. We went one better though, and asked top MUAs Sir John, Valeria Ferreria and Mary Phillips (all of whom are frequent flyers thanks to their clients global schedules) what to pack and what to pass. Heres what they reckon youll need.

What are your in-flight essentials?

“I will always hose myself down with a mist, put a serum or concentrate on and then La Mers moisturising cream,” says top makeup artist, Mary Phillips, whos responsible for Kim Kardashian, Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadids glowing skin. “I take sheet masks, too,” says adds. “Women are used to them but guys will walk by and do a double take. But yeah, Ill put a sheet mask on. I have no shame!” she says. “It really does make such a difference, because I feel like it takes my skin a few days to get back to normal after just being sucked dry on a plane. I always look at my water bottle after Ive landed and its shrunken up, thats whats happening to our skin, too”.

What to pack for when youre there

Skincare
“As someone who travels a hell of a lot for work, I would say SPF for sure. Its going to protect you from the sun and prevent ageing,” says Beyonces go-to makeup guru, Sir John. “Just make sure you get one with UVA and UVB.” And, to save on overpacking, your SPF can double as a highlighter. “I love the way SPF glows on the skin. Its a beautiful highlighter for the cheekbones,” adds Sir John. “Its really luminous and it wont feel sticky.”

As for moisturisers, “a mattifying lotion is fantastic,” says Valeria Ferreira, the MUA behind Naomi Scott, Lily James and Jodie Comers flawless complexions. “I like to use things that are very light and hydrating but not heavy moisturisers. A mattifying lotion will hydrate and moisturise while still controlling shine,” she says. Ideal for ticking off the job of a primer, moisturiser and powder.

Finally, youll need a good cleanser. “Its super important to clear your skin very thoroughly, morning and evening because of all the SPF,” says Ferreira. “You need something to get rid of it.”

Bodycare
Alongside SPF, for a little bit of skin-perfecting, “go for liquid bronzers that you can mix with your lotion,” says Sir John. “Dont be afraid to mix some coco, bronzey situation and slather it on everywhere, its really sexy.”

Makeup
“I would probably use a thick concealer, but I wouldnt use it all over. So I would micro-conceal because when you have a tan, you just dont need much. Your skin looks so great, that you just want to embrace it,” says Ferreira, so you could just use that as your base.

Or, pack a buildable foundation. “The fluid foundation that La Mer does is amazing, because when you do, a very very light face, its like your perfect tinted moisturiser, its so light and so gorgeous,” adds Ferreira but you can build up to more coverage if you need. “If you dont want much shine, then apply with your fingers or with a sponge, because then youre absorbing oil with the applicator. If you want the maximum glow, use a foundation brush, which will leave all the fluid on your skin. For me, I dont like to shine so much when Im in hot weather, because then you look sweaty.”

Colour-wise, “you want to take long-lasting lip colours that will stay for eight hours or more,” says Sir John. “LOreal would be a nice one for this.” And “give yourself a really nice pot liner so you can do a beautiful cat eye,” he says. “MACs black track fluid line is great.” Next, “go for a chunky, waterproof mascara that gives you rockstar lashes, like Lancome Hypnose in waterproof. And brows. Even if youre going to the beach or the gym, you want a brow. Give yourself a pencil and a powder because that will set it in. Finally, a cream
