Trump says Merkel and others view us as the world leader on fighting coronavirus
U.S. President Donald Trump said he had spoken to a number of world leaders in recent days, including German Chancellor Angela Merkel, and “they all view us as the world leader” when it comes to fighting coronavirus, “and theyre following us.”
Trump was speaking to Republican members of the U.S. Congress on Friday. Citing calls with Merkel, Japans Shinzō Abe and other, unnamed leaders, he said “so many of them, almost all of them, I would say all of them” believe the U.S. is leading the way when it comes to tackling the virus.
He then praised the U.S. for producing and giving away “thousands and thousands” of ventilators to other countries “who are not equipped to do what we did,” mentioning Italy, France and Spain.
