Greater Western Sydney's Jeremy Cameron has been referred directly to the AFL tribunal following a sickening incident that left Brisbane's Harris Andrews with brain bleeding.

Cameron was not offered an early plea for his hit on Andrews in Saturday's match at the Gabba, with the match review committee deciding he will face the tribunal on Tuesday night.

Andrews will miss at least the next two matches, having been hospitalised as a result of the incident, and he is being closely monitored after the collision.

He was rushed to hospital in the hours following Saturday's 27-point loss to Greater Western Sydney, having copped an elbow to the chin in an incident that caused uproar across the AFL.

Cameron never looked a chance of winning the ball when he came in from behind at a marking contest and collected Andrews, who was moving back with the flight of the ball in an attempt to spoil, with a raised forearm.

The match review panel classified that the incident was "intentional conduct, severe impact and high contact".

Cameron is expected to be suspended for at least four matches should he be found guilty.

"We watched the incident from all angles and came up with the view that it was to be graded intentional, on that basis that a raised forearm or elbow is usually conclusive that a strike is intentional," match review officer Michael Christian said.

A Lions spokesperson confirmed Andrews had a small bleed on the brain and said he was released from hospital last night and was at home resting.

The club has been in regular contact with a neurosurgeon who will take another look at Andrews in two weeks, meaning he will sit out Sunday's away clash with Fremantle and their encounter with Carlton at home the following round.

Lions general manager of football David Noble said the key defender was expected to make a full recovery.

Andrews, 21, needed four stitches to repair a cut on his chin from the collision but was said to be in good spirits once he returned to consciousness and even made an appearance on Brisbane's bench before half-time.

Harris Andrews will miss Brisbane's next two matches.

He also approached Cameron after the full-time siren but took a turn for the worse later that night.
