Antonio Conte is contributing to Chelsea’s injury problems, says Craig Bellamy :-: Metro
Ex-Liverpool forward Craig Bellamy believes Antonio Conte is partly to blame for Chelsea’s injury problems.
The Blues lost David Luiz to injury during their exhilarating 3-3 draw with Roma at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday and the Brazilian joins the likes of N’Golo Kante and Danny Drinkwater on the sidelines.
Chelsea benefited from their absence in Europe last season and had very few injuries to deal with as the Blues mostly played one game a week.
However, Chelsea already trail Manchester City by nine points and Bellamy believes Conte’s training sessions are partly to blame for their injuries.
‘The team won the league last year and they had no Champions League or Europe so they could just concentrate on the league,’ said Bellamy.
‘But I’m concerned about the injuries they’re getting. They’ve had a lot of hamstring injuries.
‘A lot of these players play a lot of international football, of course they do. But maybe his training at times? I know he [Conte] likes to do a lot of double sessions.
‘As well as playing two games a week, it’s very difficult and you’re going to pick up injuries during that period.’
