Antonio Conte tells Eden Hazard how to finish higher in the Ballon d’Or rankings
Antonio Conte has challenged Eden Hazard to win multiple major honours in the coming years if he wants to win the Ballon d’Or in his career.
The Belgian was surprisingly ranked in 19th place in this year’s Ballon d’Or list – behind teammate N’Golo Kante, the highest rated Premier League player in eighth spot – with the honour going to Cristiano Ronaldo for the fifth time.
The Belgian had a memorable campaign as Chelsea won the title, though was ineffective the previous year, and Conte believes he needs to show greater consistency too.
Asked about Hazard’s ranking, which was also lower than Kevin De Bruyne and Harry Kane, he said: ‘I’m surprised.
‘I am repeating always the same concept: if you want to win the Ballon d’Or you have to win the Premier League, you have to win the Champions League, you have to win the World Cup, the European Cup.

‘It’s important to have a great, great win. But for sure Eden is a young player and he has the potential to improve his place in this table.
‘But at the same time I like to repeat that if you want to reach the best you have to win. Last season we won the league, but maybe two years ago Hazard wasn’t in the table.
‘I think a top player must have this ambition. It’s normal, otherwise you stay with the others in the middle. This is the difference. I think he has the real potential to become one of the best but he has to win.’
