It seems bizarre that fashion houses still use animal fur and hides, given that it’s 2017 and we all know how inhumane these creatures are treated within the fur industry.

If you’re still wearing newly bought fur, you’re an idiot.

It’s not just me who thinks that either – slowly, fashion houses are coming round to the idea that using real fur is a bad move.

On Friday, Michael Kors announced that he wouldn’t be using animal fur in his products from now on.

And that also includes Jimmy Choo, who was acquired by Michael Kors holdings earlier this year.

Instead, they’re going down the Stella McCartney route by producing alternative luxe material.

‘Due to technological advances in fabrications, we now have the ability to create a luxe aesthetic using non-animal fur,’ the designer Michael Kors said in a press release.

‘We will showcase these new techniques in our upcoming runway show in February.’

Fur products will be completely phased out from the company’s collections by December 2018, after the company recently met with PETA.

It’s a huge step – Michael Kors is known for his use of fur. In fact, in his Autumn 2017 collection, 12 of the 67 looks featured fur.

Peta has often protested at his shows…and now they’re working with the designer to drag his company into the ethical 21st century.

‘This is a wonderful holiday gift for fur-bearing animals,’ says Dan Mathews, Peta Senior Vice President.

‘We’re pleased that the company is evolving away from using fur and look forward to working with Michael Kors on other issues in the future.’

Give it another couple of years and we reckon ethical, sustainable fashion will be on trend across the industry.

Here’s hoping!
