Domino’s launches Recovery TV channel to help soothe your hungover soul on New Year’s Day
Domino’s loves a marketing gimmick almost as much as they love charging us an arm and a leg for a bit of cheese and dough
Remember last year when they launched a wipe-clean onesie for New Year’s Day? Good times, hey?
Well, this year’s promotional pizza stunt involves launching a special Recovery TV channel to help soothe your frazzled and delicate hungover soul on 1 January, as well as selling a limited edition line of Domi-mates – a huggable cushion with an arm that goes around you.
The Recovery channel will screen soothing programming like crackling fireplaces, beautiful sunsets, and cute animals, to try to help you forget that your blood is 95% Jose Cuervo.
This follows research which predicts that 77% of Brits will spend the first day of 2018 sitting in front of the TV, and 36% saying they’ll be hungover.
Domino’s predicts that New Year’s Day will be its busiest day of the year, and they’re expecting to make 350,000 pizzas on January 1 – that’s eight pizzas a second.
The pizza company will have 8,300 chefs on standby around the country, ready to chuck toppings all over your dough.
The Recovery channel will be available for 24 hours on January 1, 2018, on Sky: 539, Virgin: 269, Freesat: 164 as well as YouTube, TVPlayer, TVGuide and Zattoo.

Want to get your hands on a Domi-mate cushion? Grab one in selected stores for £25 each, from New Year’s Eve, with Domino’s donating all proceeds to its selected charities, including Teenage Cancer Trust.
When Domino’s say ‘selected stores’, what they mean is ‘three stores’. Out of all of its hundreds of stores, it is selling them in three. *Blinks slowly, wonders if it’s worth it*
Stores include Domino’s London (West Ealing), Domino’s Birmingham (Selly Oak) and Domino’s Glasgow (Shawlands).
Other gimmicks from the pizza chain this year have included a Domino’s wedding registry, the launch of gift cards and trialling self-driving cars to deliver its goods.
We can’t wait to see what 2018 brings in the way of marketing…no, really, we can’t.
