KFC launches a questionable range of gravy-infused cocktails
KFC are kings of the promotional gimmick.
It often feels like they’re in constant competition with Domino’s for who can come up with the most ‘you what, son?’ publicity stunt.
In the past, KFC’s marketing bods have launched a (surprisingly decent) streetwear collection, a KFC smartphone and a fried chicken scented candle.
This time? Oh, they’ve gone big.
The Colonel and his cronies have only gone and made a KFC cocktail menu – with each drink featuring gravy as a key ingredient
Before you get all excited about KFC having got itself an alcohol license, you need to calm yourself down, for you won’t be able to buy a boneless Bellini with your bargain bucket anytime soon.
They’ve created the saucy recipes, but you’re going to have to make them at home.
Now, obviously this is 100% a promotional gimmick but we are open-minded people and are pretty intrigued by these, so if you are too, don’t forget that you can, of course give them a go with regular gravy. And without the KFC chicken garnish.
Here’s what’s on the menu.
The Gravy Mary

Now this one we can get behind – the classic Bloody Mary is a savoury affair anyway, so what harm can a bit of gravy do?
How to make a Gravy Mary
Ingredients:
- 50ml Vodka
- 20ml KFC Gravy
- Spice mix: 20ml Worcester sauce, 3 drops Tabasco, 3 grinds white pepper, pinch of celery salt, pinch of paprika, half teaspoon horseradish cream
- 15ml Fresh lemon juice
- 90ml Tomato juice
- To garnish: Celery, Popcorn Chicken
- Without Vodka (same quantities as above but with 140ml Tomato Juice)
Method:
- To create the spice mix, grab a tall glass and pour Tabasco sauce, Worcester sauce, white pepper, celery salt, paprika, and horseradish cream into it. Cover firmly and shake.
- Next, add your vodka and the spice mix and pour in the lemon juice, tomato juice and mix again
- Add in your KFC Gravy into the mix, stir all of the ingredients together and pour into a fresh highball glass.
- Finish with celery and a small skewer of popcorn chicken.
The Finger Lickin’ Sour

They say this one’s a refreshing palate cleanser – which we’re not convinced about due to the addition of gravy, but hey, we love a bit of mezcal, so wouldn’t deny this a place in our mouths.
The Finger Lickin' Sour
Ingredients:
- 100ml KFC gravy
- 400ml mezcal
- 15ml cherry liqueur
- 25ml fresh lemon juice
- 10ml orange marmalade
- Pinch of salt
- Pinch of pepper
- One egg white
- Thyme Sprig (to garnish)
Method:
- Pour the mezcal and the gravy into a tall glass. Cover firmly and shake.
- Place the glass into the freezer and freeze for three hours
- Once frozen, pour the gravy-infused mescal through a strainer and clean cloth into a fresh glass
- Squeeze the lemon into the glass, add the marmalade, salt & pepper and egg white then shake again
- Pour the cocktail mixture into a martini glass and sprinkle with thyme to finish

The Southern Twist

This is apparently a beautiful marriage of savoury and sweet – despite just looking like a marriage of whisky and gravy. Which sounds like a marriage doomed for divorce, to be honest.
How to make a Southern Twist
Ingredients:
- 50ml Kentucky Bourbon
- 60ml fresh hot KFC gravy
- Two grinds black pepper
- Two teaspoons granulated brown sugar
- Four teaspoons dried parsley
- Parsley and brown sugar rim (to garnish)
Method:
To create your parsley & brown sugar rim:
- Chop the parsley and mix with the brown sugar in a bowl
- Cut the lemon and coat the rim of the glass with it
- Dip the rim of the glass into the chopped parsley and brown sugar mixture
To create your cocktail:
- Add ice cubes and your Kentucky Bourbon to your rocks glass
- Finally pour your KFC Gravy into the glass, give it a mix and enjoy
Did KFC launch these cocktails in response to the news that fast food outlets like themselves are to be set ‘calorie caps’ in a bid to fight obesity?
Are they drowning bad news in gravy-tainted liquid? Or perhaps they’re drowning their own sorrows with alcohol?
We may never know.
