USA Women’s Hockey Team Stuns Canada – The Gold Medal Is Coming Home

The USA women’s hockey team stunned the world Thursday morning when they beat Canada to win the gold medal at the 2018 winter Olympics in South Korea.

The game was tied 2-2 before heading into a shootout, and the tension couldn’t be higher as American Jocelyne Lamoureux-Davidson secured the winning goal for the red, white and blue.

She put it in the books for the USA and the gold medal was coming home for first time since 1998.

What an incredible moment for America and our national hockey program. Four years ago we lost a heartbreaking game to the Canadians after blowing a two goal lead in the final minutes. It was brutal to watch. It was arguably one of the worst games I’ve ever had to sit through.

That’s a major part of why this win means so much to so many people. Our men’s team went to the Olympics, and got embarrassed. Our women didn’t give us the same disappointment. They walked into the games, put the world on notice, beat the Canadians and are coming home with a gold medal for the first time in 20 years.

It’s not the Miracle on Ice by any stretch of the imagination, but it’s still one hell of a special moment. Those women and hockey fans everywhere will remember beating the Canadians to secure a goal for the rest of our lives. Our women succeeded where our men failed, and they made everybody in our beautiful country proud to be American.

Well done, ladies. Well done.
