How the Aussies fared on day 15 in Pyeongchang
A team-best run in the men's bobsleigh and a pair of gutsy efforts in the men's cross-country ski headlined Australia's penultimate day at the Winter Olympics.
Australia's four-man bobsleigh crew recorded its personal best time in the first two runs, with a time of 49.72 seconds enough to see them sit in 24th place ahead of Sunday's third run.
Though it would take an incredible effort to move into the medal places after the third and fourth runs, an improved performance — and plenty of support from the Aussies in the crowd — was enough to please the team.
"Being further back in the field is always going to be tough but the second drive was a lot cleaner than the first. I'm happy with that," Lucas Mata said.
"We pushed pretty similar to the first run, so you can't be upset with coming down like that. We've just got to come here tomorrow and fire even more.
"Hearing the 'Aussie, Aussie, Aussie' was really good, I was happy to have everyone there."
Later in the day Australia had two competitors in the men's cross-country ski, with Phil Bellingham and Callum Watson braving the conditions to finish 56th and 58th respectively.
On the final day of competition, the men's bobsleigh team will be back out on the track while Barbara Jezersek will lead the Aussie charge in the women's cross-country ski.
