Uzbekistan might start regulating the number of guests people can have at wedding celebrations, the Radio Free Europe reported Tuesday.

Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev called large Uzbek weddings “shameless” in a leaked recording, Radio Free Europe reported. The authoritarian president went as far as to say that he would put high-ranking officials in prison if they disobeyed his potential decree. “Everyone’s weddings will be the same!” he said.

He was allegedly inspired by Tajikistan before a recent visit. That country already restricts the amount of food people can serve at a wedding.

“There should be no more than 150 people at a wedding, and 200 for the morning meal. Instead of 20kg of meat, you would do better to paint a poor man’s home, or buy him a TV,” Mirziyoyev said in the recording. The government has previously curtailed such lavish weddings in rural areas during cotton harvesting season.

“It’s shameless! A man in Tashkent with four daughters would rather hang himself than pay for these weddings,” he allegedly claimed.

Uzbek weddings also use large motorcades, which frustrate the president. “Streets are closed. They drive in big cars, in Mercedes … These times are over,” he said. “There will be no more weddings like this. And if there are, we will break them up. No matter how painful this is, we’ll break them up.”

News on the president’s opinions of grand weddings came after Uzek Instagram influencer Ganya Usmanova married tennis star Vazha Uzakov in December. Alisher Usmanov, the bride’s billionaire uncle, funded the wedding, Refinery29 reported. The wedding was held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. The elaborate wedding even included a fake castle backdrop at the reception.

The bride wore three different dresses and the couple sat in chairs that looked like thrones. The wedding had large floral displays, ornate candelabras, and a floor with diamond designs.
