Canberra Raiders star faces charges over alleged brawl
Canberra Raiders star Jack Wighton's career hangs in the balance as he faces nine charges after an alleged brawl outside a nightclub in the city.
The 25-year-old fullback will appear in the ACT Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
It is unclear what the charges are, but a police statement said they received reports of three assaults between 2:45am and 3:00am in the early hours of February 3.
It is believed ACT Police examined CCTV footage of the alleged incident outside the Academy nightclub, and that the incident involved at least three people.
Wighton was out celebrating his birthday with friends at the time of the alleged incident.
The Raiders informed the NRL's integrity unit when they found out but have not commented on the matter.
Wighton missed his side's 26-10 win against the Canterbury Bulldogs last Thursday, but the Raiders said that was due to the birth of his second child.
A Raiders spokesperson said Wighton was expected to be named in the squad on Tuesday for next weekend's game against the Parramatta Eels.
