The Talk Of Baker Mayfield Possibly Going First Overall Is Getting Out Of Control
There are now more reports that Baker Mayfield could end up being the first pick in the 2018 NFL draft Thursday.
These rumors have slowly been growing more and more, and now ESPN has essentially confirmed them as real. ESPN wrote Tuesday:
Baker Mayfield “definitely” has been a part of the Cleveland Browns considerations with the No. 1 draft pick, a league source told ESPNs Adam Schefter, and the former Oklahoma quarterback cannot be ruled out as a possibility for the top overall selection Thursday night.
The source said the Browns may have already decided whom they would select at No. 1. But before that final decision, whenever it was made, Mayfield was in that conversation.
Its almost like the Cleveland Browns are trying their best to not win. Why would you ever even consider Mayfield as the top pick when Sam Darnold and Josh Rosen are around? Are you kidding me?
Im starting to think this whole thing is a massive diversion tactic to draw attention away from whoever the Browns are actually focused on. That would make a hell of a lore more sense than actually taking Mayfield.
Now, dont misunderstand what Im saying here. Mayfield is a very talented player. Theres no question about whether or not he has the ability to play at a high level in the NFL. We all know he can. The question is whether or not he brings more to the table right now than Rosen or Darnold. Youre simply not going to sell me on him having a higher ceiling. Its just not going to happen. One way or another, the draft on Thursday is going to be very interesting.
