New Poll Shows How Melania And Other First Ladies Stack Up Against Their Husbands

The results of a YouGov study out Thursday showed how Melania Trump and other first ladies stack up against their husbands in popularity.

“First Ladies have been in the spotlight this last week–It shows that for each living president, Republican first ladies are more popular than their husbands while Democratic presidents are more popular than their wives,” YouGov tweeted, along with the poll results.

For example, the poll found that 40 percent of those who responded had a favorable view of Melania Trump, compared to 35 percent who felt the same way about the president.

The same held true for other Republican first ladies, with 47 percent of the respondents having a favorable view of the late Barbara Bush versus her husband George H.W. Bush who got 38 percent. Former first lady Laura Bush scored a 47 percent in the popularity poll compared to only 38 percent of the respondents who had a favorable opinion of George W. Bush.

However, the pattern completely reverses when it comes to Democratic presidents and their spouses.

Of those who responded, 58 percent said they viewed Barack Obama in a favorable light compared to 57 percent for Michelle Obama. The same for Bill Clinton, who scored a 42 percent in the popularity poll compared to only 38 percent who felt the same for Hillary Clinton.

Taking a deeper look inside the numbers, an overwhelming 47 percent of the men had a positive view of the current first lady compared to only 33 percent of women who felt the same.

But the reverse holds true when it comes to Clinton, who scored 42 percent favorability with women in the popularity poll compared to 34 percent of the men who felt the same.
