West Hollywood Honors Porn Actress With Keys To The City
The city of West Hollywood will honor adult film actress Stephanie Clifford, better known by her stage name Stormy Daniels, with a key to the city and a public proclamation Wednesday for her role in the “#RESIST movement.”
Daniels has “proven herself to be a profile in courage by speaking truth to power even under threats to her safety and extreme intimidation,” said a press release announcing the ceremony and naming May 23 as “Stormy Daniels Day” in West Hollywood.
The Trump administration “has been a direct threat to the people of the city of West Hollywood — our LGBTQ community, our immigrant community, women here in this community — so Stormy Daniels has really showed up as the woman to save the Republic,” said Mayor John Duran, ABC 7 reports.
Daniels is suing President Donald Trump to break a nondisclosure agreement she signed in 2016 that forbade her from speaking about an alleged affair the two had in 2006. Trump denies the allegations. (RELATED: Stormy Daniels Ends Performance After Man Throws Wallet At Her Face)
“In these politically tumultuous times, Daniels has proven herself to be a profile in courage by speaking truth to power even under threats to her safety and extreme intimidation,” the city said in the statement for the event scheduled for 4 p.m. Pacific. The event will be held at Chi Chi LaRues, a gay adult store.
Since Trumps election, West Hollywood has affirmed its status as a sanctuary city, open to people of all races, sexual orientation, and immigration status. The city council passed a measure urging the U.S. House of Representatives begin impeachment proceedings against Trump.
Earlier this year, the city of 35,000 people presented a key to Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong to celebrate the 40th anniversary of their movie “Up in Smoke.”
On Wednesday after Daniels accepts the key, she will sign autographs and meet with fans at Chi Chi LaRues, a gay adult store, according to West Hollywood city spokeswoman Sheri Lunn.
“Weve all been joking around here that its going to be a stormy day in West Hollywood!” West Hollywood city spokeswoman Sheri Lunn told USA Today.
