17yo smashes women’s world record 232 not out — then takes 5 for 17
Australian Belinda Clark no longer holds the record for the highest score in women's one-day internationals following a phenomenal knock from New Zealander Amelia Kerr.
Teenage leg spinner Kerr smashed 232 not out against Ireland in Dublin, surpassing Clark's unbeaten 229 against Denmark at the World Cup in India 21 years ago.
Kerr, who usually bats down the order, made the most of her promotion to open with a dizzying 145-ball knock.
She finished four, four, six to sneak past Clark as the White Ferns posted 3-440.
The 17-year-old then claimed 5-17 — clean bowling all five of her victims — as Ireland were dismissed for 135.
New Zealand posted a clean sweep of wins by more 300 runs in the three-match series.
Records tumbled throughout the series in Dublin, which began with New Zealand posting 490 in the first game, the highest ever men's or women's ODI team score.
Kerr had previously scored 174 runs in her fledgling career, the Tawa College student having made her name as a bowler of some talent.
Her innings at Clontarf Cricket Club was the second-highest in all women's formats and is only bettered by two knocks in men's ODIs.
Her 31 fours is a women's ODI record while her partnership of 295 with fellow-spinner Leigh Kasperek (113) was the second highest in the format.
She is the youngest double centurion in all international cricket.
India's Rohit Sharma has the highest score in a one-day international, making 264 against Sri Lanka in Kolkata in 2014.
New Zealand's Martin Guptill scored an unbeaten 237 against the West Indies in Wellington in 2015.
