Chocolate and whisky combine on new taste tour

A Scots distillery has launched an indulgent whisky and chocolate tasting tour with a difference.

Dewars Aberfeldy Distillery is giving a twist on the popular tasting craze, as the tour replaces flavoured chocolates with single origin dark chocolate discs, allowing the cocoa to lead the flavour.

The distillery claims this is the perfect accompaniment to its fine Scotch whisky range.

The chocolates have been sourced by local chocolatier Charlotte Flower, from Africa, Asia and Central America, and the final decision as to which would be chosen was made by Dewars Master Blender, Stephanie Macleod.

The Whisky and Chocolate Tasting Tour runs every morning at 10am (except Sunday) and comprises a full guided tour of Dewars Aberfeldy Distillery, warehouse and interactive heritage exhibition. Saving the best until last, it concludes with the indulgent and flavourful pairing experience in the stunning Whisky Lounge.

Visitors sample Aberfeldy 12 year old single malt whisky, the premium Dewars 12 year old blended Scotch and super-premium Dewars 18 year old blended Scotch, matched with chocolate discs from Vietnam, Guatemala, and The Democratic Republic of Congo.

UK brand homes manager Charlotte Brown said: Were very excited to have teamed up with chocolatier Charlotte Flower to launch our brand new Whisky and Chocolate Tasting Tour, and she has sourced some of the most excellent chocolate from around the world to create the perfect pairing.

Its taken a lot of very arduous tasting to find the perfect combination, but were confident weve ended up with the ultimate “win-win” scenario.

The Whisky and Chocolate Tour lasts for two hours and costs £23 per person.

Dewars world-renowned crafted Highland Single Malt Aberfeldy has been produced at the Aberfeldy Distillery since 1898 and the visitor experience is located in one of the original buildings.

An extensive refurbishment of the visitor centre was undertaken back in 2014 which saw many of the traditional features of this historical building refurbished. A dramatic stave tunnel installation, made from oak casks, leads visitors from the heritage exhibition to the hosting area. There is also a feature archive wall, which showcases vintage memorabilia, signs and advertising campaigns from throughout Dewars history.
