Joe Scarborough Says Substance Doesnt Matter As Kavanaugh Hearing Will Come Down To Who Is Best On Television
Joe Scarborough said physical appearance will matter more than substance at the testimony of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaughs first accuser.
Christine Blasey Ford, who is set to testify Thursday before the Senate Judiciary Committee, accused Kavanaugh of groping her over her clothes at a party in high school and also claimed he drunkenly tried to remove her clothing by force. He denied the allegations.
“What is the standard? And let me tell you, unfortunately, what the standard is going to be, even before we see the hearing,” Scarborough said on “Morning Joe” Monday. (RELATED: Joe Scarborough Predicts Devastating Results For GOP If It Sticks With Brett Kavanaugh)

“Who presents best, who is the most believable, who nods their head at the appropriate time. Who doesnt sort of have nervous flop sweat. Who is best on television. Thats what this has come down to. Its going to be a gut instinct — who do you believe?”
Scarborough cited the 1960 presidential debate between Richard Nixon and John F. Kennedy and said Nixons appearance caused those watching on television to think hed lost — while those listening on the radio thought hed won.
“Were not going to be talking about a preponderance of the evidence, were not going to be talking about any standards that we carry in courtrooms or in civil or criminal cases,” Scarborough concluded. “Its going to be who is the most convincing on television, and thats unfortunately no way to pick a Supreme Court justice.”
