A dramatic Macau Grand Prix crash which left German racing wunderkind Sophia Floersch with a spinal fracture had nothing to do with the track, according to the teen's team boss.

The 17-year-old Van Amersfoort Racing driver lost control at a bend on Sunday, flying over the barriers and into a photographers' bunker at high speed.

Footage on social media showed the F3 driver was already out of control when her car hit another, sending her flying into the air before hitting the wall.

Floersch was taken to hospital, along with Japanese driver Sho Tsuboi, two photographers and a marshal.

Floersch's team boss, Frits van Amersfoort, has since told motorsport publication Autosport he did not believe the track was to blame.

"I don't think the accident was Macau-related," he said.

"If we go back to Macau next year, I'll be a bit afraid but this accident could have happened elsewhere.

"We also race in Pau and F1 also races on all kinds of street circuits. Macau is a special track, everyone knows that.

"The contradiction is that everyone knows the dangers, but most drivers also say that Macau is the most beautiful track in the world. That indicates how strange it sometimes is."

He said it was incredible there was not more carnage.

"Dear God, everyone had an angel on their shoulders because it could have ended much worse," he said.

The FIA is investigating the crash, and Van Amersfoort told Autosport the body had seized footage from Floersch's onboard camera and those of the drivers around her.

Meanwhile, Floersch has taken to social media to say she "survived" 11 hours of surgery and would spend a few more days in Macau, "until I am transportable".

"I want to thank all of my fans for every single get-well wishes, which I now start reading. This really motivates me and gives me courage," she said.

"My thoughts are also with everyone who was involved in the accident. I hope everybody is healthy.

"At the accident were really nice people, which I still have in my mind.

"Thank you for all the encouraging, calming words in these tough minutes in my car."

The driver also left no doubt about whether fans would see her behind the wheel again.

"I'm going to come back!" she wrote.
