Dear Amy and Amber: You conducted yourself with loyalty, integrity and hope and GLAMOUR’s got your back

At 9 oclock last night, we started getting nervous. We knew we were going to witness some duplicitous behaviour and genuine heartbreak on Love Island. Wed seen the way Curtis had been speaking the past few days and we knew what to expect from Michael. We suspected, surely, all of us, that the first recoupling ceremony since the girls relocated to the notorious Casa Amor was going to be epic. At the start of the show, though, we couldnt have known quite how emotional wed get over the questionable actions of a professional ballroom dancer and a fireman with a science degree.

By 10 oclock, millions of us were weeping and yelling at the television. In what has to be one of the most dramatic episodes ever, we heard Curtis deliver a savage little monologue about how hed been lying to Amy and himself. He neglected to mention, of course, that he had tried to crack on with new girl Jourdan without bothering to enquire if she was interested and only found out after hed already declared his allegiance to her that she was, inexplicably, interested in Danny. We then had to watch sweet Amy walk in, not knowing his betrayal.

Then of course, in the last few moments of the episode, we saw Amber arrive alone, only to find her Michael coupled up with Joanna. He has been going on about how immature Amber is and frankly showing no remorse for the heartless decision hes made to abandon her, but as she walked in even he looked horrified. We will have to wait until this evening to see the absolute carnage that followed– and no doubt Michael will be able to dismiss Ambers entirely justified anger as yet more evidence of her immaturity. Thats just the way men like him operate; weve seen it before.

Love Island's Maura being open and confident about sex chat is so damn empowering

Thankfully, we also saw Tommy and Molly-Mae reunite and it was the healing balm we all needed during such an onslaught of ratbag behaviour. It was all that is pure and good in this world and we are lucky to have seen it, bless them, bless them all the way to the bank, for surely we have our winning couple. We also give our blessing to Anna, who was entitled to choose her stupidly handsome basketball player because she hadnt spent the past few weeks lying to Jordan about her loyalties or her affections. And Lucie and Maura and the rest, may they crack on in peace.

To be honest, I am devastated for Amy and Amber. Last nights episode was too much for me. Those women were left genuinely vulnerable and their heartache will be real.

Amys relief and joy when she saw Curtis standing alone by the fire pit, having just told all her friends that hes been disloyal to her, was genuinely wrenching to watch. This is her first relationship and shes been throwing about the word “love” while her ballroom-dancing half-boyfriend has been proclaiming his attraction to women hes just seen. Maybe he committed too early, maybe he cast himself as the papa of the villa too soon and felt trapped, maybe he was misrepresenting his feelings for a shot at the 50K. Maybe he was even genuinely confused. The fact remains that darling Amy will be destroyed by the revelation that hes not into her and I am truly sad to see it. I stand by her family, who have been asking the British public for weeks to be kind to their girl.

Meanwhile, Michael has been slandering Amber in order to get close to another woman. Hes been sidling up to Joanna, who may or may not be perfectly nice, by slagging off our fiery but
