Sweet Chick – a US fried chicken restaurant backed by American rapper Nas – is opening its first British branch this week.

The UK outpost – and first international venture – opens on Thursday 26 September, taking over a former Carluccios site at Market Place, near Oxford Street.

The restaurant will serve the brands famous fried chicken (soaked overnight in sweet tea-stained brine) and waffles, alongside some Southern-inspired dishes such as biscuits and gravy, shrimp and grits and mac n cheese.

All-American comfort food will continue with the dessert menu, with dishes such as a doughnut ice-cream sandwich.

As well as these mouth-watering plates, the site will serve a number of specials inspired by the restaurants new British home, alongside cocktails and beers from London Fields Brewery.

Sweet Chick was founded by John Seymour back in 2013, before Nas came on board in 2015. Currently, there are four restaurants in New York and one in Los Angeles, and the new London venue will follow the same format.

Speaking to the London Economic, John Seymour said: We have tried to replicate the small details of the American sites, to maintain Sweet Chicks authenticity as a brand.

The PDR, also known as “The Jazz Room” at the Long Island City site will also be replicated at the London site.

The fried chicken restaurant has already attracted a celebrity following, including the likes of Cameron Diaz and Andre 3000 – so no doubt British stars will soon be flocking to the new Fitzrovia venue.
