Phil Jones speaks out on Manchester United’s move for Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez
Phil Jones insists Manchester United will not be distracted by speculation linking Alexis Sanchez with a move to Old Trafford during the January transfer window.
Sanchez, who will be out of contract in the summer, is expected to leave Arsenal this month with United moving ahead of rivals Manchester City in the race to secure his signature.
Pep Guardiola was keen to bring the Chile international to the Etihad – having tried to sign him last summer – but United are now frontunners and are said to have agreed personal terms with the 28-year-old over a winter move.

Jones, who has been at United since 2011, insists Sanchez is a ‘good player’ but remained coy when asked United’s interest in the former Barcelona forward.
‘We just go about what we do best. Keep playing, it’s not up to us, it’s not down to us. We know just as much as you guys,’ the England defender said.
‘If someone new comes in the door then obviously it’s a positive move for United, but it’s not up to us, we just do the business on the pitch.

‘Yeah, he’s a good player. But it doesn’t mean to say he’s going to come to United. We’ll have to see.’
Winning 15 of their 23 league games this season, United have moved to 50 points but remain 12 adrift of Manchester City, who lost their first game of the campaign last weekend at Liverpool.
‘Football’s football, you never say never,’ Jones said when asked whether United can still catch City to win the title.
‘I remember in my first season we were eight points clear, absolutely cruising, no way we’d let the lead slip – and we lost it on the final day.

‘Football’s football. People can say what they want, but we’ll continue to be positive and push forward. You never know. It happened in 2012 to us, so why not?’
United closed the gap to City with an emphatic 3-0 win over Stoke City on Monday evening. Antonio Valencia fired the hosts in front before Anthony Martial and Romelu Lukaku wrapped up the win either side of half-time.
Jose Mourinho’s side travel to Turf Moor to face Burnley this weekend.
