Its The Perfect Time Of The Year For Jim Romes Incredible Softball Guy Rant
Softball season is right around the corner, and that means its time for Jim Romes awesome rant about “softball guy.”
I really do enjoy softball season. Theres nothing better on a summer day after work than getting a few beers and watching your team steamroll some people. Its what beer league softball is all about.
However, there are always those people who take it way too far. Thats what Rome focuses on in his famous rant. Its all about the angry young guy who actually is dumb enough to believe hes a legit player. Listen, if youre a legit player, then you would be playing actual baseball. Lets not get it twisted, and nobody says it better than Rome.
Im sure some of you probably think Romes little rant is a bit of an exaggeration. I can promise you that its not. Ive witnessed “angry young guy” with my own eyes.
True story, I once watched a guy show up late to a game, complain about not having the right glove, needing to “warm up” his bat to save the team, moan about the rest of the team and then proceed to blow the game. You cant make this stuff up. This guy was never accused of being overly intelligent, and it was absurd even for the standards set by an idiot. Hes all of Kenny Powers, minus all the humor and talent. As we often say in the sports world, its just a sh**show waiting to happen.
People like this should be banned for life. Listen, youre an absolute loser if you treat softball like its game seven of the 1980 Miracle on Ice. Youre a complete clown and loser, who also probably doesnt pick up women.
Heres how you do softball correct. Get your swings in, get your beers in and find a bar afterwards. Its not a hard formula. If youre yelling at teammates, talking about needing to “save” the team, complaining about who is playing what position, complaining about your glove, then youre doing it wrong.
Of course, “young angry guy” generally lacks the basic intelligence to understand the difference. As Rome points out, he thinks he could be Derek Jeter. Its sad to witness this, but Ive seen it far too many times. Lets all try to be a little better, enjoy a few more beers and maybe not tell the “angry young guy” out there where or when our games our. Thats sounds nice. Lets do that.
