New Allegations Of Inappropriate Conduct Emerge From Redskins Cheerleaders
The New York Times published an extensive profile of the Washington Redskins cheerleading squad, and it is full of allegations of inappropriate conduct.
A large part of the article focuses on a photoshoot the squad did at the Occidental Grand Papagayo resort on Culebra Bay in Costa Rica. The woman allegedly had to be topless in front of Redskins fans who paid for special access to photoshoot. It doesnt stop there.
The women also had to be “personal escorts” for the men who paid to see the photoshoot that night out on the town. The New York Times reported the following:
One evening, at the end of a 14-hour day that included posing and dance practices, the squads director told nine of the 36 cheerleaders that their work was not done. They had a special assignment for the night. Some of the male sponsors had picked them to be personal escorts at a nightclub.
“So get back to your room and get ready,” the director told them. Several of them began to cry.
…
Their participation did not involve sex, the cheerleaders said, but they felt as if the arrangement amounted to “pimping us out.” What bothered them was their team directors demand that they go as sex symbols to please male sponsors, which they did not believe should be a part of their job.
I dont know what is going on with the NFL, but this cheerleading stuff is getting out of control. Its all allegations at this point, but its still an absolute PR nightmare from the perspective of the leagues offices. I mean, you have allegations of domestic abuse already this offseason and cheerleaders are just coming out of the weekend.
Ive said this once already, but there is no excuse to ever leave cheerleaders around people without security. Would a grocery store just send off its employees to be dates for people? Obviously not, and a grocery story isnt a massive public organization like the NFL is. How could there ever even be the possibility for something like this to happen?
If I owned an NFL team, I would start firing people immediately if it was proven that men paid money to fly to an island to see cheerleaders to be photographed topless. Add in the escorting part around town, and I would lose my mind. Heads need to roll in the Redskins organization if any part of this NYT report is true. The NFL needs to get back on track quickly.
