The president started his message with a word about the strength and passion of American mothers throughout history, saying that our republic could not have been built without them.
My fellow Americans, today is one of the most important days of the year: Mothers Day. Its a special opportunity to thank all of the mothers and grandmothers in our lives. Since the earliest days of our republic, Americas strength has come from the love and courage and devotion of our mothers. They helped us gain our independence. Through their grit, determination, and incredible spirit, they pioneered the West and settled the frontier. During World War II, Americas mothers helped build the greatest arsenal for democracy.
Trump went on to talk about his own mother, the Scottish-born Mary MacLeod, who came to the United States in 1930 and became a citizen just over a decade later. He credited her with at least a portion of his own success, calling her “tough, if she needed to be” and “a really nice person.”
The president concluded with a simple message to all mothers in America. “So, I say this to you as I think about my mother: Happy Mothers Day, and God bless the United States of America.”
