If you’ve ever had a terrible meal, chances are you’ve probably considering leaving a review.

And you probably hope you’ll never bump into the chef again.

But Matt White has a different approach: reading bad TripAdvisor reviews to restaurant owners.

Considering that being confronted by a screaming chef isn’t on our bucket list, what got the food and drink broadcaster from Manchester into it?

After being inspired by the Jimmy Kimmel Show where celebrities read mean tweets about themselves, he said it would be the ‘perfect platform for angry chefs’.

‘I’d noticed over the last few years that chefs and restaurateurs were starting to bite back at bad Trip Advisor reviews,’ he tells Metro.co.uk.

‘Gone were the days of sending apologies with the promise of a free glass of house white on their next visit.

‘The chefs were starting to give as good as they got.’

He then roped his filmmaking friends, Duncan Elliot and Andy Silcock, to make the videos.

Matt describes the reactions as brilliant but he ‘tries not to take sides’.

‘I’m not there to ram home the faults to the owners, nor am I there to chastise the reviewers.

‘I’m merely there to make the chefs or owners feel as awkward as possible and see how angry I can get them!’

It’s not all bad though.

‘Some of them have taken it in good humour, laughing them off and using jokes to deflect the negativity.’

Matt says his favourite video was the Hispi Episode: ‘His stance was perfectly clear. If you write a bad TripAdvisor review, you can stay away from the restaurant.’

‘His point was if there’s a problem speak to the staff and sort it out in the restaurant. If you write about it on the internet for all to see then nothing will get done about it.’

So what’s next for Matt? Well, he hopes to get bigger name chefs involved.

‘I’m not sure how brave they would be but Jamie Oliver, Gordon Ramsay and Tom Kerridge should come and have a go if they think they’re hard enough,’ he tells us.

Confronted by a shrieking Gordon Ramsay?

We’d rather leave an anonymous bad review, thanks…
